As you will quickly learn in the window cleaning business, there is no exact industry price for window cleaning, the industry price is what the market will bear where you live. However on average you should at least be able to charge $8 to $10 per window. I know some window cleaners who charge less then $4 and some who charge $15. The ones who charge the least tend to go out of business. You wouldn’t think that would be the case but the problem is they are working to hard and not making enough money for their labor. A person can only do so many jobs a day and even if they have a full day every day it wont be enough because eventually they will tire from working so hard and making so little.
From experience in my own San Diego Window Cleaning business I can tell you that the low baler will dropout. I did and then got back into window cleaning at a higher rate. Every window cleaning business has expenses and want to get paid a decent wage for their hard work, so don’t short change yourself with a low price per window.
I can’t tell you how many times new customers tell me how they used to have a window cleaner who charged a lot less then I do but there number is no longer in service. My response is always they same, “it’s probably because they charged below the market price and couldn’t afford to stay in business.”
Then there are those who charge $15 per window, they are trying to target a wealthy class of people. There is some psychology behind pricing. If someone sees a real high price they think they are getting a better value and service even if it’s the same service as a medium range price such as $8 per window. However if someone who gets their windows cleaned hears about a $4 dollar per window service they might think that the service will be quick and poorly executed and they are most likely right. Then again you have those people who are penny pinchers and it wont matter how good or bad the service is all they care about is getting the job done as low as possible. In my San Diego Window Cleaning business I try and stay away from these type of customers as they always are very picky and complain about everything.
